[comp.sys.atari.st] warning: full spectrum computers

toml@xrxns.UUCP (Tom Love) (08/18/87)

well, once again the vagaries of the volatile personal computer
marketplace have apparently conquered another contender, and once
again it is the little guy who gets screwed.
it appears that full spectrum computers may be out of business.
they haven't answered any correpondence to me in the past month,
and attempt to reach them by phone result in recorded "out of
service" messages.
they owe me $20 dollars worth of disks. i have little doubt that
i'll ever see my disks or money.  the stuff was paid for long ago;
only due to their ineptitude in copying PD software onto the disks
in the first place was i dumb enough to return them to them via mail
for replacement (these were incorrectly copied magic format disks).
the lesson in this: do your transactions with your neighborhood
dealer, if possible; if not, be leary of "low-priced" mail order
places (i'll be there are some black patch customers who would
agree with this).
anyway, the main point of this note is: don't do any business with
full spectrum computers unless you have reason to suspect they'll
be around to deliver what you pay for.
btw, full spectrum is/was in dumfries, virginia, and advertised in
current notes magazine every month. i have previously detailed some
of my dealings with them re: the magic sac in this forum. a more
ridiculous mail-order hose job would be difficult to imagine.
beware!

       {problems he had with Full Spectrum Computers}

I, on the other hand, always dealt with Full Spectrum on a personal basis
and have had no problems with them. When my 1040 needed repairs (power spike
through the modem...damned CONTEL) they did everything possible to keep
the cost to me down. I've picked up some inexpensive software from them
as well as some freebees.

I haven't been by in quite a while (finances you know), but will
drive by to see if they have gone out of business.
