[comp.sys.atari.st] Making 720K DS disks for PC-DITTO

zsr@psuvm.bitnet.UUCP (10/03/87)

Say, has anyone (else) had any problems using the 720K disks formatted using
PCDFMT with PC-DITTO? I can format the disks using the PCDFMT utility and
DOS can write and read to the disks, but whenever I try to read them with
GEM, the system locks up (no cherry bombs, just straight into la-la land).

The funny thing is that 720K disks formatted using a PS/2 Model 30 can be
read and written to by GEM with no problems. Am I doing something wrong?
I've tried to format both with and without the DCwhatsis.SYS driver
installed but both lock up the system when GEM tries to read them.

By the way, PC-DITTO seems to work as advertised. It is pretty slow with
all graphics operations (including text), which means that using REFLEX is
unspeakable (because all text is actually done in graphics mode). It still
beats buying another computer (not that I'd buy a PC anyway; I *love* my
ST!). All of the above nonsense is taking place under DOS 3.3, by the way.
