[] Hi all, some info and a question: I got the September newsletter from Data Pacific, and it says they're taking orders for the Magic Sac Macintosh compatible disk drive. The price is about $280. They had a special price if you ordered before Sept 30, but it's too late now. Before I plunk down money, I'm wondering if anyone already has any experience with the drive, and could tell me if copy-protected games run straight out of the box? In particular, I'm interested in Deja-Vu, Uninvited, and Shadowgate from (I believe) Mindscape. I own the ST version of Balance of Power from the same publisher (at least the packaging is the same unusual style), and their copy protection seems a bit Draconian vis-a-vis the way it treats the disk. (BTW, Pro-Copy has no problem cloning BOP. I thought you might like to know, since BOP is particularly obnoxious because it writes to the master disk!) Also, a note on crashing the latest version of the Sac, 4.36. I got the book _The Macintosh Bible_ and was following the instructions in an early chapter for organizing a disk's contents when an ugly crash occurred. I don't have the book in front of me, so I'll defer posting the steps till I do. But, unfortunately, it is still possible to crash the Sac while performing a normal operation, even with crash recovery enabled. rob Robert Stegmann {allegra,ihnp4,decvax}!philabs!hhb!rob I in no way represent my employer in this matter.
