In the San Jose Mercury News this Sunday there was an add for San Jose Computer. They advertised a price like $1799 for a Mega-ST 4. However, at their store the price turned out to be more like $2599 for a monochrome system. The add was posted on the wall, and the prices had been corrected with red pen. Must have been a typo .... They have a system on display and it has the blitter. Karl Rowley

According to my sources, there are two reasons behind the "high" pricing of the Mega-ST series: 1-megabit dynamic ram chips are used exclusively in the -2 and -4 models and due to various reasons these chips have not decreased significantly in price this year the dealer margin is being raised (similar to what Commodore is doing with the Amiga 2000) dgc

/* ---------- "Mega-ST pricing" ---------- */ According to my sources, there are two reasons behind the "high" pricing of the Mega-ST series: 1-megabit dynamic ram chips are used exclusively in the -2 and -4 models and due to various reasons these chips have not decreased significantly in price this year the dealer margin is being raised (similar to what Commodore is doing with the Amiga 2000) ------------------------------------------ One reason prices on the megabit chips have remained fairly stable and in some cases increased slightly is due to a new agreement which has recently taken effect between the US and Japan which prevents some of the dumping of chips in US market at lower than manufactured costs...since most of the meg-chips are today manufactured oversea, the prices didn't drop as fast as most expected. Demand for the chips is not overly high yet anyway. The Mega-ST's are the first "mass-market type" personal computer to even use the chips as standard as far as I am aware...
