I just came back from the Atari show in Worchester, Mass where I saw (for the first time) as Magic Sac in operation. It appears that my last reason for purchasing one has disappeared: Data Pacfic has final released its "read-a-Mac- disk-directly" system. It is not (as I had suspected) a seperate drive that is Mac compatable, but is instead a device that daisy chains into your existing disk drives that (somehow) converts the drive to be Mac compatable. This device is called the Translator One (tm). In addition, they have also released the new version of Magic Sac and a printer driver for the Magic Sac that controls Epson compatable printers. They now feel that they have enough products to begin selling packages. The breakdown of packages (from one of their promo blurbs) is as follows: Magic Sac Plus - $149.95 Appears to be the newest version of Magic Sac Translator One - $279.95 Also boasts compatablity with IBM PC/XT/AT diskettes Magic Printer Driver - $45.00 Magic Sac Professional - $449.95 (all three items bundled together) As to what software Magic Sac now handles, the blurb continually uses phrases like "mature Macintosh software." Speed is equal to the Macintosh SE and the hard disk access is 25% faster than any Mac hard disk. It is fully compatable with all ST systems, including the Mega.
