[I'm told the first lines of my messages are being eaten, so....] Oooh... here's a juicy new rumor. Remember that talk earlier this year of an 'EST' computer? I just heard that the EST is not a computer, but rather a very smart, hires monitor. It will supposedly sell for around $1100, have a resolution of approx. 1200x1200, will have built-in coprocessor chips to support it, and should be able to hook up to many different computers. Oh yeah--it's color too. (editorial note: yeah, right) Of course, this would be a logical item for Atari to come out with if their new machines (not the Megas) are for real. Other rumors: *contrary to what Neil Harris said (or what I think he said) on the net a few weeks past, Atari is coming down hard on any companies that try to sell the Megas below retail (even companies that are 'authorized' dealers that aren't selling mailorder). HEY NEIL, ANY RESPONSE TO THIS ONE? *of course, I don't expect to get a response soon, because COMDEX is just around the corner (next Monday, Nov. 2), and I suppose Neil is there... Atari will be holding a large meeting in Houston this Thursday, which is to be attended by dealers and people from the Federated chain. Hmm, pre-COMDEX showing's, anybody? *Atari has raised the distributor costs on the 520 and 1040's by $200 [editorial note: you're kidding, right?]. *the 520 requires a special version of the blitter... *Atari TV ads are running constantly on Houston area stations In case you hadn't guessed, I just talked to someone down in Houston. I don't have any idea as to the accuracy of these rumors (the net is the only place I can go for verification), but they're fun anyway (kind of like Farside comics...).
