well, i hate to take up space with this but it looks like i have to do something. first, for all of you who have been trying to reach me and have had your messages bounced back. we (icase) are still here and so am i. we had to change internet addresses and it seems that i can't get mail from you until the machine from your route updates its host tables (/etc/hosts on some UN*X boxes). I never realized that this would happen, but it has been a week and i have only received 2 pieces of mail ( i normally receive 15 - 20 messages a day). anyway, that is why. second, (and very related), i think those of you who have access to your system administrator or postmaster should stress that they try to keep their host tables semi-up-to-date (my postmaster says that host tables range from 24 hrs to 24 months out-of-date on some machines). i realize that this is not ST related, but it does affect this list. (i don't even think wiscvm.wisc.edu or sh.cs.net have updated their tables). third, for those trying to reach me i suggest trying the USENET path or the BITNET path (as a last resort) or get your host tables updated. fourth, i am thinking about porting gawk to the ST. <emphasis on thinking>. anyway, has anyone tried this? is there already an awk utility out there? i have the sources from GNU and it is quite large and this will be a looong project. any suggestions? comments? reactions? thanks, -chip ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chip Roberson ARPANET: csrobe@icase.arpa 1105 London Company Way BITNET: $csrobe@wmmvs.bitnet Williamsburg, VA 23185 UUCP: ...!uunet!pyrdc!gmu90x!wmcs!csrobe ------------------------------------------------------------------------- icase.arpa is now at 128.102.23.51. update those host tables (/etc/hosts)
