[a line to be eaten] Here's a portion of the "Robert X. Cringley" column from the Nov. 2nd issue of Infoworld: "...I just knew the Atari boss was feeling good, with his transputer about to go public and a laptop transputer in the works. And monitors!--my spies in Hong Kong say Jack has a new factory churning out super hi-res color monitors at a price so low he can sell them for less than it costs other companies just to make theirs. Look for Jack's 1280-by-960 monitors coming from a major peripheral vendor and a TV/montior version under the Atari label selling at Jack's Federated electronics stores. Yes, I you read correctly--laptop *transputer*. This is the first I'd heard of such a beast, but then "Robert X. Cringley" was the first, as far as I know, to break the news about the Mega (a month or more before they were announced), and was pretty accurate, so maybe what he said here is true. That monitor he mentions sounds an awful lot like the "EST" monitor I mentioned last week-- however, I'm really suprised that they're actually *producing* them. In another rumor, I heard today on the evening news that a bunch of trade restrictions on Japan are being lifted, including something to do with computer chips. I wonder how this will affect RAM costs (and hence the cost of the Megas). Scott Udell UD140469@NDSUVM1.BITNET [a line to be eaten]
