[comp.sys.atari.st] Gulam and TeXinfo

csrobe@ICASE.ARPA.UUCP (11/23/87)

I have been using Gulam (beta version) for about a week now (thanks lee
dickey :-) and i haven't had a problem yet ('cept one, which you will see
in a minute). For those of you who remember my problem with OSS PP and
Flash steping on each other in Gulam, that problem was fixed in this
release.

One really great improvement, is that the documentation comes a "TeX-able"
user's manual. TeXable iff you 1) have GNU emacs and TeXinfo.tex, or 2)
TeXinfo.tex and a williness to do a few minor changes, or 3) just TeX,
and editor, and some patience. [Luckily, the authors also included a
straight ascii version of the manual for the less fortunate.]

Anyway, I fall into the second group, which isn't so bad -- only two
TeXinfo commands aren't recognized: '@emph{}' and '@unnumberedsubsec'.
@unnumberedsubsec is listed in the TeXinfo documentation, but doesn't seem
to be implemented. @emph is just not there, anywhere, but i was able to
change it to @i{} ('i' for italics instead of 'emph'asis) and it worked.

The documentation also comes with some (customized) .el files to do some
conversions. Perhaps this takes care of the @emph and @unnumberedsubsec
problems but it's hard for me to tell since it is designed for GNU emacs
(lisp-like) extension language.

I was really surprised that, given the effort that went into producing
such a quality shell, that the TeX documentation would be distributed
without the TeXinfo input file. I am hoping that mine is out of date,
and that I can find a more complete version. I have written to the authors
but they have yet to reply (and if the future resembles the past, they
won't).

So, can anybody out there help me? Since our system administrator refuses
to put GNU emacs on our system, that option is right out. Does anybody
have a more complete version of TeXinfo (mine is dated 1985)?

Thanks,
-chip
