[comp.sys.atari.st] Atari ST Policy?

MOLCS@UNO.BITNET (12/11/87)

An open letter to Neil Harris,

Dear Neil Harris,

      I have a few questions and comments:
      I have a 1040 ST which has an external SF314 drive, an SC1224
color monitor. I also have a DEC DF03 1200 baud modem and a DEC LA50
Personal Printer connected to it. I purchased my ST after reading the
March 1986 Byte articles. I was, soon after my purchase, disappointed
to learn that my 1040 did not have the advertised RF port.
NOTE: My "Owners Manual" instructed me that one should be there...

I also have a CP/M-80 system.... My CP/M system included with the basic
system: The BIOS source, An Owners Manual, The DRI CP/M "docs" and other
documentation. The bundled software included: an assembler and loader;
the "standard" CP/M utilities ( EDT, PIP, STAT, etc ); Microsoft Basic;
and a spreadsheet MultiPlan. What did I get with my ST? 1STword, Neo,
ST-Basic, and ST-Logo, and useless docs...

Now for my questions:
     Will Atari be offering any TRADE-UP programs?
     If not, what about selling the Mega system unit and keyboard
      sans Monitor? ( I assume that my present Atari hardware will work with
      the new Megas? )
     Will the new Mega ST computers have more software bundled ( what? )?
     Also, What about documentation? My local bookstores do not even carry
      Atari books ( plenty of MAC, Amiga, IBM and even C-64/128 books ).
     Being a "poor" Computer Science student, WHAT does Atari offer me to
      remain a faithfull buyer?

                        Michael O. Lott
