When I bought my 1040ST about a month and a half ago I was looking for a full featured word-processor. I chose WordPerfect because it came with an impressive range of features, which allow me do do useful text processing at home. (I have been spoiled by typesetters, but I am having to get used to the fact that I no longer have access to a laser printer). Anyway, WordPerfect it was. The features are great, with one major exception: It plain doesn't work. I won't repeat the bugs, which are numerous. I wrote to WordPerfect and received no reply. I did receive their latest updates though without any accompanying explanaton. These are dated 10/28/87. Slightly better, but still many things don't work (some critical). I have been in touch with J.B. Marketing, their Canadian representatives who are aware of the problem. Unfortunately they are still working on their database of registered users so that no one has been notified that the software is buggy. By the way J.B. Marketing is not mentioned in any of their literature. I met them at the Canadian Computer Show. Basically it's CAVEAT EMPTOR. Buyer Beware! I am still impressed with the list of features. I am holding out hoping that WP will resolve them. HOWEVER, I found the release of such premium priced software without even a small amount of testing ( I can only assume this since anyone working with the package would be frustated with it for days on end - I was ), inexcusable!!! Besides that, leaving registered users in the dark and not even informing them that the bugs are known to WP also pretty low. I am extremely disappointed at WordPerfect's handling of the whole affair, and I think they're reputation will suffer as a consequence. New updates are supposed to be released around the middle of December, i.e. real soon now. SO, IF ANYONE IS CONSIDERING, PLEASE DON'T. WAIT A WHILE AND MAKE SURE THAT THE SOFTWARE HAS STABALIZED. If anyone needs more info, please don't hesitate to contact me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pavneet Arora Control Data Canada, Ltd., Usual disclaimers.
