[comp.sys.atari.st] Spectrum style displays

wayneck@tekig5.TEK.COM (Wayne Knapp) (12/20/87)

A couple weeks ago I posted a message stating that one could get more colors
on the ST by page flipping between two screens with the colors set to slightly
different values. Well after many trails and tests I've decided that that
just doesn't work very well. No matter how careful one it you still get some
flickering. Not only that but the color mixing is not very linear, so some
of the inbetween shades aren't very inbetween. Anyway I decided not to waste
my time on that any more.

This means I have to eat some of my words about ColorBurst since I can't do
any better with the color mixing. Still I don't like that program. What I
do like is Spectrum. Wow is all I can say. I never realized what could be
done with only 512 colors.

So now I'm wondering if anyone else if planning to use the Spectrum style
display mode. Seems some routines could be put together that would allow
programs to make Spectrum style pictures. I believe that Antic and the
authors of Spectrum don't have any rights to those type of displays as long
as their code isn't used. Are more people planning to do this type of thing?

By the way, I tip my hat to Antic and the Spectrum 512 authors. What a fine
program.
