I have had some experience with the Beckmeyer MTC shell without the VSH manager. First comment: If you don't have a hard disk, don't even try it. The package is heavily dependent on disk access, and trying to use a normal floppy is just too slow. Other then that, I have found the package to be very good. It seems to be a very good emulation of the Unix system. This emulation can be made even more complete with the purchase of a addition package or two (MC-Tools, as I recall, is one of them.) Some gripes I have is that they either have not made any revisions to the package in the last year or so (which is very doubtful considering the work that must have gone into the package) or that they just have not sent out reports of these updates to their registered owners. (I sent in my registration card about a week after I purchased the package but have not heard from them since. On the same note, while they might have updated the manual, the one that came with the version that I have is really not that helpful if you don't already have a good background in Unix. Basically, though, I have found the package very useful and well written. Mark Hamill mh4x@andrew.cmu.edu
