[comp.sys.atari.st] How compatible are MS-DOS and TOS disks, REALLY?y

John_L_Ferguson@cup.portal.com (02/07/88)

How odd. I've formatted a disk on an XT, put files on it, and was able to
them with my 1040. I've even taken files off of the 1040 and put them onto the
XT (documents).

I do a lot of transfering around between systems. I've found that
when the disk is formatted on the PC with MS-DOG 3.2, the ST can
read-write the floppies fine if both systems only use the root
directory. For some reason if a mkdir is done on the PC, the ST
sometimes can't find the directory or the files in it. And
occasionally, TOS will make the disk unusable be both systems
when I try to copy a new file to the disk.
