[comp.sys.atari.st] New Printer

keithr@vice.TEK.COM (Keith Rast) (02/10/88)

Has anybody seen or heard anything about the new HP DeskJet
Laser Quality printer? I just read an article on it in the
newspaper, but it didn't give enough specifics. It did
say that it was $995, 300 dots per inch, two pages per minute,
uses a replacable ink jet head ($18.95) thats good for
about 600 pages, it uses regular paper. The article also
said that it was HP and IBM compatible. OK, but what kind
of printer driver would I need? Is it Epson FX compatible
or what? Will I able to print output from EZ-Draw with the
standard driver and get laser quality? If anyone has any
more information on this new product please let me know.

With the FX-80 emulation cartridge, list price $75, it is FX-80
compatible. Graphics is scaled by the emulation cartridge to print
the same resolution as the Epson.

Graphics, since it's the same resolution, will be just as coarse as
the Epson. Text prints at 300 dpi and is laser quality.

Sorry, Keith, I don't know the answer,
but your question does raise another.

What is it that is new about this printer?
Ink jet printers have been around for some time, now.

But this is the first that I have heard them called "laser quality".
Which came first: laser printers or ink jet printers?
