I forgot to mention that the background dl/ul facility of SHADOW
(see previous posting) is reset-proot !!!! Yes, you can reset the
computer and the transfer would still be okay .
I just did some timing on TurboDOS. My setup is 1040 monochrome with
20 Meg Supra HD. All programs were run from BDT Micro C-Shell:
Without TurboDOS With TurboDOS
------------------------ ----------------
Load uniterm 2.0c 6.03 sec 3.95 sec
3.95 sec ***
Load Publishing Partner 7.02 sec 3.38 sec
(with 4 fonts) 3.38 sec ***
Memleft 2.5 sec 1.3 sec
(a C program which 0.67 sec ***
shows amount of RAM left)
Clear 1.72 sec 0.55 sec
(a C program which clears the screen) 0.30 sec ***
df on partition C 7.11 sec instantaneous
( 3.8 Meg free / 8 Meg )
df on partition D 8.09 sec instantaneous
( 8.4 Meg free / 9 meg
------------------------------------------------------------------
*** means running that program a second time immediately after running
it once. Note the decrease in time for MemLeft and Clear (both
are very small TOS programs (of < 2K, i think) )
With TurboDOS, all those little Unix utility programs run like built-in
commands.
