[comp.sys.atari.st] All new neato keen file selector?

dmb@TIS.COM (David M. Baggett) (04/20/88)

I asked this a while back but didn't get any response. Here
goes again:

I've been hearing (reading) that there are programs which replace the
fsel_input with a better file selector. Questions:
        1) What's the best one?
        2) Is it public domain?
        3) Could I package it with a product I am selling (it would of
course be free, but would be included on a disk of other
           things that aren't) ?
        4) Am I correct in assuming that it works by replacing the
fsel_input function in the AES kernel?
        5) Is Atari supporting it?

                Dave Baggett

If I'm just totally wrong about this, someone tell me!

			Thanks

it seems like there a a few of us frustrated developers (myself included in
spades) on the net who mostly like the ST but find a lot lacking in Tramiel,
Inc. (i'm trying to be as kind as possible :^). we started out giving what
we thought would be serious, constructive comments to our favorite company
and a few compasionate souls there (a. pratt, et al) were actually concerned
and tried to respond. the problem is THEY take pride in themselves (and
presumably) their company. the ringleaders have a more fiscal outlook and
recognize that we are an awfully small sample, hardly worth the effort.

in a fit of compasion we also though we were trying to educate our fellow
readers as to what goes on "behind the scenes" (as if they really did not
know). now we are getting sarcastic and hence bitter. i guess i'm just too
tired of the same old thing. let's ask ourselves: is it really worth the
extra gray hair or two? i mean, why the heck bother anymore? it does zero
good. the "average" reader of this newsgroup (based on postings) is either
not a developer and hence happy with the machine (because it's a good value)
or just doesn't care anymore.

and you know nothing you say has any impact AT ALL on how the T's run the
show. forget it, guys, it's not working. just count to 10, calm down, and
don't use the F or f key!

(i will remain forever silent about atari. i will also refrain from doing
much serious development work on any atari product, not that commodore/apple
are much better. better to tough it out in the ibm [serious] world. besides,
if all goes well, i should have a sun 386 to play with in a month or two :^)
