(Okay! An opportunity to stop this rash of negativism on the net!) The question was raised, out of curiousity, of what reasoning did we net.atari.people used to buy an ST. Being one ever willing to chime in my three bits, I'll write: About a year and a half ago, I began running into walls with my 800XL system. Not that anything was WRONG, mind you, but things such as memory limitations (especially for word processing) and the overall slowdown of new software (yes, even games B-) was getting a bit noticeable. Being the skinflint that I am, I bit the bullet and decided it was time to upgrade. Like most people, the choice boiled down to the Atari ST vs. the Amiga (please, black & white Macs don't cut it). I was considering the Amiga for a while, but when I compared the cost of the 1040ST and what it offered, along with the Amiga's price and what it offered ("okay, so I don't get 4096 colors, but the ST costs less, comes with a megabyte of RAM, and is COMPLETE..."), the decision was clear. And to tell the truth, I haven't regretted my decision yet. I still haven't found a TOS bug that was cause for *major* concern (What underscore bug?), and the quality products that have come out for the ST are truly first rate (Three cheers for Antic!). Admittedly, Atari Corp.'s management has been a tad lackluster lately, but what HAS come out is good. And hopefully, from some of the signs on the net, Atari will be improving itself, and maybe soon we can call "flames" (such as those by Mr. Beckmeyer) a faint memory. If you're still reading this, thanks for sticking around through this ramble. It's 9:30am, and my biorhythm gets verbose this time of the year... --R.J.
