I hear a lot of talk about this "ST whine," yet (call it ignorance) I still have no solid idea or what you guys are talking about. SO...
My "whining" experience only occurs when I turn on my SC1224 (color) monitor. When I turn on the ST, fine - no sweat. When I turn on the Avatex, fine - no sweat (well, almost -- the cordless phone picks up a slight amount of static). Then when I turn on the monitor...Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! You can hear this high frequency pitch coming out of the monitor. At first, it gets on your nerves but after a few minutes of sitting in front of it you kinda "mask it out" and don't hear it any more. I
suspect this is the cause for the occasional line noise (ok, CONTINUOUS line noise) that I get when I call a couple of BBS's (I only get noise from three local BBS's; all others are crystal clear). I have a shielded homemade modem cable, so there shouldn't be any problem there, right?
Anyway, what I want to know is this: Is there a chance that the line noise I get (I don't get noise when I call here) comes from the whine in the monitor? Can I get rid of that whine without voiding my warrantee or encasing my monitor in shielded casing? If so, how?
