[net.music] YAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!

davidl@tekig.UUCP (David Levadie) (01/18/84)

OBOY!! Santa was REAL GOOD to me, in spite of my Rottenness! (har, har).I got:
new FEAR (How new is, it,anybody know?)
	Husker Du's METAL CIRCUS
	new WIPERS

all worth the wait.... And even if he didn't give me the Anti-Nowhere
League I wanted (maybe it was the fire hydrant I turned on at the top
of a hill during the freezing weather), I GOT A NEW RADIO STATION!!!!!
(KBVR 88.7 Corvallis, for you deprived (depraved?) Horrorgonians...)
(You'll need a GOOD antenna and a LOT of luck... the hardcore is
Thursday nights at 10 PM.....)

Now then. Since my last salvo left some people confused (hopefully this
one will too), I will elaborate:

I have never been able to derive any satisfaction or enjoyment
from playing or listening to music played off SHEETS. It is
COMPLETELY lacking in spontaneity and originality! (Ahhh...
	the steam begins to rise...)

Furthermore, I love to bait ANYBODY who thinks ANYTHING is REAL.

Why won't any of the local blabberbox cesspool excuses for radio
stations play the Wipers???? WHY???? Here's a LOCAL band that has 3 albums
out, all of them good, original music, has gotten rave reviews in Boston
and Germany and Fungoolistan, and NOT ONE of the so-called
"rock" stations in the area will play them!! (I've even called them up
and harassed them and they just sort of act dumb - I can't believe it.)

I heard about a radio station getting blown up in Texas or someplace
a few years back - If anybody out there was responsible, your skills
are needed elsewhere.

And now, for the obligatory inflammatory insult you've all been waiting
for with baited breath:

I saw Michael Jackoff on the cover of a "Michael Jackoff Narrates E.T."
album. Their pictures were right next to each other. I think it should
have been named, "Two Of A Kind", like the Revolta/Fruitin-John album.
(Accurate in both cases.) Maybe they should get married? - and produce...
what? ANOTHER set of 5 somethings that jump up and down and go ook-ook
gibber-gibber? Hmmmmm...... He does make a good werewolf, though.
Now if he'd just keep growling and quit trying to sing.....

I tend to agree with you re MJ, but I must assure you that my breath
contains no substances designed to lure anyone or anything. ("I'll
say!" says someone in the background...)

One wonders what this fellow's code is like, if he programs...
I must admit that his musical tastes fit his confrontatory attitude
very well.

Here is a counter-flame:

I have never been able to derive any satisfaction or enjoyment
from playing or listening to music that can't be written down.
It is COMPLETELY lacking in organization and originality!

Anyone can make noise and call it music. But music is something
that goes on inside your head. Whether it once had a symbolic
representation is irrelevant (although prior to the development of
recording music had to be written to be published).

I started listening to `new wave' bands back in 1976. I stopped a
couple of years later when everything started sounding dated (and, I
admit, I had a certain concern over developing a hearing loss--my
ears would ring for a day after I went to hear some of these bands).
Back then it was a music of (political) outrage and rebellion. Now,
it seems to be nothing but pretense and violence. It's lost its
`soul', in my opinion, just as surely as if it had gone commercial.
