Originally I was amused. Then I grew weary. Now I'm *PISSED*. I've seen this same message in at least three separate newsgroups over the past week or so. And today, it's appeared in two more newsgroups (so far). Some suggestions: 1. Everybody send an envelope with a blank piece of paper in it to: Jay-Jay's College Fund PO Box 5631 Lincoln, NE 68505 If we all do this, it will flood the post office in Lincoln, hopefully pissing off the postal authorities. If we each put a blank piece of paper in the envelope, this clown will have to open every envelope in case there really is money in it. 2. Put JJ@cup.portal.com in your global KILL file (if you use rn or some other newsreader). 3. I'm not a quiter, and I'm not going to give up. I tried a different route. I got a couple of small scholorships (I will be graduating in August by the way) but NO loans and the only help from my parents was a place to lay my body at night. As for the rest, for the last 3 1/2 years I have been averaging 17 hours a quarter and worked 25 - 30 hours a week. So GET A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- JOHNNIE --

That's how I got through school, with much the same arrangement as jsp@sp7040 (which isn't surprising since we share the same parents :-). BTW, jsp@sp7040 has a 3.8 / 4.0 GPA (no, mine wasn't nearly THAT good). -- /|\ Barnacle Wes @ Great Salt Lake Yacht Club, north branch / | \ @ J/22 #49, _d_J_i_n_n_i /__|__\ ___|____ "If I could just be sick, I'd be fine." Well, there's an alternative. Why do you want to go through school? To get a job, right? To either make a lot of money or help humanity. I'll assume that if you wanted to make a lot of money, you'd have been asking for loans from folks over the net and offering a fair interest rate. But you didn't, so I'll assume you want to help humanity (or are so incredibly stupid that you didn't even think of the personal loan route). And, we'll assume, that you didn't ever hear of the disk jockey in Texas or the guy in the New York Times or the dozens of others who tried the "Send your dollars now" scam and got $K's. Okay, here's how you do it. You go down to, oh, any major pedestrian traffic intersection and BEG. I've lived in some major cities, and have seen it work famously. If a job isn't your cup of tea, just be honest with people on the street. Tell them you have no disabilities, no disadvantages, have been going to college for several years and have no intention of performing any extreme physical or mental labor ever (I'm assuming this is your story, now). Maybe someone with the same background will stroll by ("look, Mumsy, a poor chap with clean fingernails is -- 'sweating'!! I'll give him some money! Would you like my Bentley for the weekend, Fellow?") There is a downside to this, though, assuming you don't get your head batted around by someone who'd read the net around now when you graduate. You might get hired by someone. G. Mark (sensitive) Stewart

Do not send anything to this guy. Why? 1. Nowhere in this posting is the poster's name mentioned. Jay-Jay WHO???? 2. I've seen this done before by some radio station DJ... "just send me $20 for no particular reason" and the guy received a significant amount of money. 3. What organization is this guy from???? 4. Mailing address....just a PO box??? I want to see your home address. 5. What college can't you afford? I cannot believe a college would kick you out just because you have the potental of not paying your tuition. If this is a legit plea for money, I challenage the poster to answer the above questions. Please note that it is a federal offense to use the post office for fraudulant purposes. Sorry for taking up your valuable disk space, folks, but stuff like this just makes me sick to the stomach. --Pete Hsi Univ of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC = "U Must Be Crazee" :-) ARPA: pete@umbc3.umd.edu -or- pete@umbc2.umd.edu Bitnet: pete@umbc "Cobol is a virus from outer space"
