I must admit, that as far as programming sound, it does sound pretty bad
(but Dr. T's and ST replay are pretty amazing!). I used to program on
a 1200XL, and I programmed some games. I always used sound in my games,
and it was easy to create explosion sounds, and other assorted sound
effects. I don't use sound in the games I program on the ST, because it
doesn't sound good. I have not been able to program any GOOD sound
effects (and I've never seen (ok heard :-) ) a program (PD or other)
that has good sounding explosions, lasers, ect.)

>Go into an arcade and HEAR some of the new games.

I posted about a week ago about games on the ST, and pointed out the
fact that Blasteroids in the arcade has amazing sound and graphics, and
that I wasn't even sure that it could be well cloned on teh ST. The
only way I could see it having high enough resolution for the game,
would be in mono mode, and then it wouldn't have any colors
:-(...wait...sorry I was getting of the subject there.

One last thing, I still havn't fully figured out how to play music
indipendently of the program,(Hey!! that's mustitasking!! Who says the
ST dosn't have multitasking?!?!?! :-)but I really don't think
(considering the sound (at least the sound *I* get out of an ST) isn't
very good) that it is worth it.

P.S.

I tried to make this letter as confusing as possable by adding a lot of
parenthases, I hope I secceded :-)

P.P.S.

If anyone (especially who uses GFA Basic) has succeded in getting some
good sounding sound effects, I would like some info. on how you did it.
