For whatever it's worth I have an old 520 expanded to one meg, and a mega 4 at home and another mega 4 at work. All three have been more reliable than the Mac's and the XT in the office, tho' the one at the office has some mystical problems with NeoDesk, getting the program icons on the desktop screwed around while I've never had any problems with the one that is mine. Both about the same age, mine two months and the office one 4 months earlier. Just adding some data for those with a statistical bent.

While we are on the subject of "adding data for those with a statistical bent."--as Dave Flory (I think) puts it. I own (or at least have in my home) a 1040ST, an IBM clone, an Atari 1200XL, and a Mac Plus. Out of all of them the one I have had the least trouble with are the two Ataris, I have had to have my ST's drive heads alined a few times (that might be due to the fact that I format SS disks as DS). I haven't had any other work done on any of the others. The Mac Plus' OS is buggy. Every-so-often it crashes just when I'm in the middle of something big that I haven't saved for a while. My Mac Plus also dosn't have a reset or restart button, so when I get a system error (which I do often) I have to turn it off. I used to have a Mac 512, and when I upgraded found that the Mac 512 and the Mac plus were not very compatable when all of my favorite software bombed. My ST is my main computer, and I usually only use the Mac for an occasional game, or desktop publishing (because I have access to a laser printer). I totally ignore my clone, and basically my 1200XL has retired for a games machine. I am very pleased with my ST, and I believe it is the best microcomputer on the market today! ~~~~~~~ As far as Megas go, after hearing about the problems of the Megas, I asked my local Atari service man how many Megas he had in to repaire, he said none.
