A while back there was a big discussion on how the Supra drive ran very hot while the Atari had disk ran cooler and how this really made no difference in the long run. Well.... Yesterday my Supra drive died. No, it is not the power supply but the miniscribe drive inside is trashed. When i turn it on, one hears a metallic grinding noise. It was not moved, banged, etc - just used last week in 90+F degree weather. After talking to a Supra distributor, I found out this is quite common. When the drive runs hot it expands and may trash data that has been written before. What happened to me is more extreme - presumably the head expanded, or a balancing counterweight expanded and fell off, trashing the mechanism. At least my thesis was backed up on floppies. /leonard
