I know that it is silly to comment on a subject that has been beaten to death as much as this subject. But I can't resist. I do not understand why the developers who were smart enough to develop their own work arounds for Malloc cannot stop using their code and just start using Malloc again. In my mind I would believe Atari more if they put their foot down and developed a RELIABLE(Not necessarily good) os and laid down the law about rules and not suporting programs that do not follow them. (I am sure that there are many reasons that each developer will cite and I realize that this does not address the issue of binaries that will break under the release of a new os.) On another note, it was very interesting to see the commodore booth in Atlanta (SigGraph 88) and also to notice that there was no atari booth. I was very disappointed to see this, and am wondering if there is any significance to the fact that a company which is trying to sell a computer as a graphics machine does not invest in a booth in the foremost graphics conference in the world.
