[comp.sys.atari.st] Where do you go from GFA Basic?

Friesen@PCO-MULTICS.HBI.HONEYWELL.COM (10/03/88)

Hi all

Ever since I purchased my ST (over a year ago), I've been programming
with GFA Basic. It's a really good language, easy to program, fast,
etc. However, I feel that I'm outgrowing it. I often program video
games, and GFA Basic just dosn't seem to have the power or the speed to
make a fast action arcade game. I will see how much speed increase you
get with the new version, but I don't think it will do it. What I would
like in a language is:

1. Fairly easy graphic support for games

2. Fast execution of graphics (this is where GFA Basic falls short)

3. Very powerful use of GEM, I/O, and graphics

I'm not sure what language is best for this. I know that the assembly
language is the fastest, but I really don't want to learn it. I am
learning Pascal, and am planning in a year or two on learning C. I'd
rather stick with one of these two. Can anyone reccomend a package for
me?

Thanks in advance.
