Hello car lovers!
Are there any Opel owners out there in net.land? Opel as in
the Adam Opel GT 1900. Owners of the Manta or Kadette with
either the 1100cc or 1900cc size engine, please raise your
hands too! I need all the advice I can get!
I have a 1969 Opel GT 1900. This car was given to me by a good
friend after an accident (no one got hurt). A stupid drunk ram
into him at an intersection and smash the left rear corner in.
Between this and the time he gave me the car, it sat in his
backyard for 8 months. It was in sad shape when I got my hands
on it. Body needs lots of work, new rear brakes are needed, and
much nit pick stuff.
So far I have replaced the frozen Solex carb. with a Weber,
unfroze the left front caliper, and will soon be replacing the
crack exhaust manifold with Pace-Setter Quick Trip headers.
The engine is in good shape but leaks oil and the compression
is at about 7.5. But I am still having lots of problems with
the engine running smooth.
Initially I throught it was because of cheap wires and the old
plugs, so I have replaced them with Bosch performance wires
and plugs. Also, the rotor have been replaced and the points
coming soon; little parts are very hard to find. (I do know of
C & R Small cars.) It now runs smooth when the car starts from
a cold start (4 hrs rest), but if the engine is still warm the
thing likes to jerk and miss fire when accelerating. Plus the
engine refuse to idle under 1300rpm (correct is 1000rpm).
If any of you car buffs can give me any advice please send it
