As many of you know, I've been posting a list of ST picture formats here pretty regularly (there have been frequent updates). I started doing this because there were a lot of questions about the various formats, few of which ever really got answered well. The list has gotten to be long (325 lines), and it occurs to me that the postings might be simply wasting net bandwidth (i.e., if most people are just skipping over it it's just filling up space in the digests.) So here are two questions: 1) Are people still interested in seeing the postings? 2) Would people rather see just updates, as opposed to the entire list. I'm perfectly willing to keep posting it, but I don't want to annoy a lot of people for a few people who are interested. Neil Forsyth suggested unix man page style postings, where each format would have its own page. When a format got updated, the new man page would be posted. Comments? ------- Yes, keep posting the picture format info! I first implemented programs using that information from your first posting quite a while back. I have saved the newest version in an "info" area and have kept up with the postings every time. I have found the info gained from neo and degas files invaluable. Keep up the good work as it is a very good use of bandwidth ( better than this posting for sure ), much better than some of the extraneous stuff than gets posted here ( including mine ). This is a lot of very useful info in a relatively small amount of space. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Joubert | /\ | /\ | _ jpdres13@usl-pc.USL or ... | \|<>|>|> \|<>|>|><`|`| ut-sally!usl!usl-pc!jpdres13 |-----/|-------/|---------------------- GEnie: J.JOUBERT | \/ \/ -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to everyone who responded. Many schemes for distributing the list were proposed. Here's a compromise: 1) I'll post the whole thing here at the beginning of each month. 2) I'll post updates here as they are made. Only the updated format description will be posted (not the whole list). Several people liked the Unix man-page style idea, but I think there are a few problems with this (for one thing, where does the introductory info go?). Thanks for the input, Dave Baggett
