[comp.sys.atari.st] Genlocking ?'s

Friesen@PCO-MULTICS.HBI.HONEYWELL.COM (10/26/88)

I would like to be able to (when I get my genlocking equipment for my
1040) use color seperation overlay (CSO) effects. This is how they
replace the blue screen behind the weatherman on the news with a
computer satellite picture. When dealing with film, instead of video,
it is called blue-screening (I think). I am curious if this CSO is
usually done with hadware, or if it would be possible to make a program
for the genlocking device to allow it to do this. I would like to do
this for many reasons, one example would be when I film a space ship (I
make home movies) I could film it in front of a blue screen, and later
(with Cyber Paint) add a starfield background, and possably an animated
planet.

Would soemthing like this be possable?

Thanks in advance.

In video, this process is called chroma-keying. The best explaination is
the following.
Chroma keying is the process where the effects switcher selects a particular
color in the scene and replaces it with video from another source. Case in
point: The weather man stands in front of a blue screen. The effects
switcher is adjusted so that blue is the color to be replaced. The blue
portion is then cut out of the video and the underlying video is then allowed
to show through. A real creative Technical Director could replace the red
lipstick on a woman with black or green to create some humorous results. I
have also see men's ties replaced with buildings, etc. So much for
"Professional Video"!
