About a year ago, I bought the IBM PC version of Minix. Unfortunately, since I've been unable to install it into a hard disk partition, and don't have a hard disk I can devote to it, it's been pretty much useless to me. Now that the Atari ST version has been released, I think I would have better luck with that. So, does anyone know whether Prentice-Hall has a 'trade-in' policy whereby I could trade in my PC disks for the ST disks? I still have all the original disks and the box they came in. Thanks, -Matt

Not much chance. Prentice-Hall views the MINIX distribution as a BOOK, and as such they are not at all concerned with compatibility. You bought it, you keep it. It didn't work for you -- too bad, give it to your library. You want another edition, you buy another edition. After all, if you want a more recent edition of a normal book, you don't get an "upgrade" or "update" deal either. We'll see more of this type of software marketing, as book publishers get into the business of marketing software with their books, but at $79 its not that bad. You want to upgrade to a more recent version of PC DOS, you generally have to pay full price too. C'est la vie. -- Wolf N.
