On Nov 1 1988, Jim McCabe asks... >Does anyone have any experience with the Indus GTS100 disk drives? >Are they more or less reliable than their Atari SF314 counterparts? >..... I have owned a GTS100 for about 3 months now - its manufactured by another company now (I think its called something like Future Systems), but I am pretty sure its the same drive as the INDUS. I have been quite happy with it. It is quieter, smaller, and it seems faster than the Atari drive. It also has a couple of extra features: As well as a busy LED, it has a power LED and a two digit LED track indicator. On the negative side, it *seems* that the drive has to be powered on before the computer is booted and a boot disk is inserted. Previously I would power up my system all at once by switching on the power bar. However I discovered that when I did this with the GTS100 drive, the disk track containing the directory would get screwed up - making several files on the disk unaccessible. I have not yet discovered whether this is a problem with my GTS100 drive, or is endemic to the whole batch. The problem was eliminated when I turned the GTS100 on before turning on the ST.
