I never saw an answer ! No one else interested ?

In the German ST-Computer (1988/10 ?) there was a short message that stated
that the University of Bremen (W-Germany) has developed an editor for Chinese
Kanji. They showed it at the fair of Duesseldorf and it was named something
like 'SINOTEX(T)'. They announced also an editor for Japanese Kanji and Kana.
Sorry, but I don't remeber the prices and distributors.

A second article was published in ST_Computer (1988/11, p98): 'Der ST im UNI-
Einsatz', where they described the project TECHIS from the 'Technische
Universitaet Berlin'. They have developed a system that scans Chinese texts
and translates them to the standard 'GB 2312-80' (Something similar to the
ASCII code for the Kanji).

My questions:

Does anyone know more details about this 'GB 2312-80' standard ?
Exists there a similar one, or an extension for the Japanese Kanji and Kana ?

I remember that I have read some 3 years ago a paper that states that
someone with a Chinese name at an American university (Stanford ?) had made
some investigations about the possibility to produce Kanji with Metafont
and use them with TeX. Does anyone know whether there exist such Metafont
definition files ?

At least, it shouldn't be too difficult to write an editor for Kanji and
Kana, because you really don't need proportional spacing. The problem
will be the input of the Kanji pixel images.

No one interested in doing this job ? I would appreciate such a work, because
I could edit my homework for my Japanese courses on my computer.
