Hi, (just to start out on am informal note) Regard the backup of FAT tables to prevent loss of data when being hit by a virus or a Trojan Horse as only a minimal backup since any really pseudo-clever type of virus writer could easily just start formatting tracks on the hard-drive. Thus the FATs would go in less than a second and data would be wipe out until you rebooted the machine. So, just go ahead and backup your data to be safe. . Next, could someone out there put me on the distribution list for Z-Mag ST. Thanks. . . . Scott P. Leslie (UNCSPL@UNC) Jax . NEWD SOFTWARE : Nothing Else Will Do!

A backup of the FAT and directory provides very good protection. I understand that it is just as likely than a Trojan Horse or a virus can erase data tracks as well as the FAT and directory BUT if this happens, most of us will be quick enough to turn off the computer before the damage becomes too severe. It does take a lot of time to format tracks and I am sure the sound that this makes is going to attract attention. With a 130 MB hard disk, backing up everything is too tedious for me. I talked to Mark White of Supra and he was interested but I have seen nothing from him yet. Maybe some hacker on the net can do it -- I will gladly pay a shareware fee! Lawrence Y.
