HI,

I'M RELATIVELY NEW TO THE ATARI GROUP AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD GIVE
ME SOME ADVICE ON A MACHINE TO BUY (I.E. CONFIGURATION, SOFTWARE, ETC.) IN THE
LOW END PRICE RANGE. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED....

THANKS.

I would strongly recommend a 1040 color system as a starter (and
a damn good starter at that!) It can be easily found for around
$850 new and better used. It would include 1 meg of RAM and an
internal DD drive and would take care of 95%+ of the software out
there. If you decide thats too much then drop the color monitor
and go for a mono - one of the best mono monitors out there.
Thats should cut a good %140-200 from the price. I would not
recommend a 520ST because it only has 1/2 meg and much of the up
scale software needs more than that and upgrading to 1 meg or beyond
is costly (but not too difficult) so you may as well get all the
RAM you need right off the bat. If you have a little more to spend
then by all means get a Mega 2 system - its Atari's new standard
machine and a mono system can be easily found for as little as $1,299
complete!
