I now have a fairly long list of archives for the ST which either cannot be accessed from my arpanet host or the logon for ftp has changed ot they haven't done anything in months. What I don't have is any accessible archive for ST software which is active. Clio is gone, HIM1 is unknown to my host ftp. Lakesys is down. Canada1 hasn't added any files in months. RADC is totally inert. SSYX has never been accessible. Is there any knowlegable individual on arpanet who would list available archives and what the user name, password, directory, etc. is to be able to get new programs either by ftp or via listserver. I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds this whole process frustrating. Herb Goertzel .

If your system does not recognize HIM1.CC.UMICH.EDU, try using the IP address instead. For HIM1 it is "35.1.1.43".

I thought Lakesys was coming back up... Oh well. If your host doesn't
recognize the name him1.cc.umich.edu, use the address instead - 35.1.1.43.
Clio couldn't afford the disk space finally, which is why we needed to move
things to HIM1. Login as "anonymous" and use any password, then Change
Directory to the ST archive. ("cd pc7:")
By the way, we should have a complete index in a few days. We've also
weeded out duplicates and old versions of programs, leaving roughly 32M
of ARC'ed programs. We also have 2 years worth of Info-Atari16 digests
archived here.

True, it can get pretty frustrating. We found some corrupt archive files
on Him1, which some people reported to the net. They're fixed now, but
I'm sure the people who spent the time downloading them were pretty
frustrated too. Can only say "sorry - we tried, it's OK now."
Jon and I spent 8 hours downloading all of the him1 files to floppies
recently. Figure about 40 double sided, 800K floppies to get everything.
Perhaps after we have the index we can offer the collection by mail.
It would be pretty time consuming to do this sort of thing though...
