[comp.sys.atari.st] Spectre 128 and LDW POWER Problems

1. Spectre 128

I finally received my Spectre 128 to graduate from Magic Sac. However, any
programs that require 128K ROMs (EXCEL 1.5 and HYPERCARD) will not run on
either my Mega 2 or my 1040ST. I get the message that a system error has
occurred (#26 I believe). This is definitely a pain since I bought Spectre to
run 128K codes.

I phoned Gadgets by Small and was greeted with Christmas music and the
message that Gadgets is closed until January 3, 1989. Jeez, I really want to
play with HYPERCARD over the holidays and I would REALLY appreciate it if
ANYONE can give me a clue as to why the codes that need 128K ROMs will not
run (Oh yes, Red Ryder 7.0 will not run under Spectre either and I really
need a telecomm code to talk to our VAX). PLEASE, anyone - HELP!!!!!!!!!!

2. LDW POWER

In only three weeks of use, LDW Power has managed to destroy three different
worksheets during saves. Big chunks of my sheets have been vapourized (have
the gone to the same place as the TT or the ATW?). Has anyone else had LDW
blow away parts of sheets?

Quick answers to these questions would be highly appreciated.

P.S. Does anyone know why UNITERM requires a numeric keypad key to be followed
by <cr> on my 1040 yet one is supplied automatically on my Mega?

Regarding Pieces of Files missing:

I too, have had pieces of files missing only recently. Yesterday I
found out why! My Magic Sac System files Mac Finders 4.1 & 5.4 have
been degrading in performance and reliability (sounds like a virus?).
I kept replacing the system/finders with my backups, not knowing what
the symptoms of a virus were/are. Finally they died while eating up
my data and program disks.

The symptoms were system error ID's = 15 or 29, when running
applications and programs. The disk's desktop info would also require
being rebuilt with occasional loss of a file and most notably the
system folder would become "Folder #1", or the System/Folder Icons
would disappear but still boot properly.

I have been using MacBeep and Ramstart on the system disks. Also using
the Stuffit utility for "unarcing" net files.

Yesterday upon boot up the System disk took forever....... and finally
displayed:
                                                              [Missing
                                                                Icon]
                                                             System Disk
                                                          [^In BOLD text^]
The Disk Icon was missing and the
System Name Was In Big BOLD text.

So.... I clicked on The DA About Finder ...........

Was Displayed Very Slowly.......
And then the system locked up!

Does this sound familiar if anyone knows please let me know.
Thank You,

I run HyperCard on my Spectre 128. It only works if I use the second modt
(most) recent HyperCard 1.1.2. I also need the System 6.0 release, which
I installed on my hard disk with the Installer program.

HyperCard 1.2.1 always crashes when I run it under any system release I try.
Funny thing is, Dave Small showed it running at COMDEX, and he had a
Mega ST 2. Weird stuff. I have the Spectre version 1.75.

The 1.5 release of Spectre worked the same way; HyperCard 1.2.1 would
lock up the system instead of crash (well, it eventually crashed).

Even now, if you cause a hypercard script error (either by typing in the
command box or running a bad script and an error alert is written by HyperCard,
), it freezes the system. Kinda stinky IMHO.
