Well, I got a 1040st so you can stop answering my questions. Several people asked for copies of what I was told so I decided to post the results. I will still send a copy to each person who asked directly. In article <11615@dartvax.Dartmouth.EDU> I wrote: >I am thinking about getting an atari. Why? cost. I plan to spend no more >than $2000. Should I be looking at amiga's? Wrong newsgroup to ask that question! >I have one main concern. I want to be able to write C code that will run on a >unix machine. Looking through the magazines I have seen two C languages that >look good. Can anyone tell me about Mark Williams C and Laser C? There were lots of rave reviews about Mark Williams C. A few people compared them and liked MWC better. One person gave Laser C a good review but did not mention MWC at all. >I have some questions about what kind of system I should get. >What is the difference between a 1040 and a 1040+? The 1040st+ is a 540 that has been upgraded to 1 meg and has an RF adaptor. >What is the difference between a 1040 and a mega 2? The mega has a blitter chip and more graphics. It also has more memory, and you can put in more by simply popping in the chips. >How much do the mega system cost and where can I get one? best price I saw was $1299 for mono, $1499 for color >I worked on a 520st with a development company back when the st first came >out (back when the os was all software, not on chips). How much has changed >since those days? Lots more software. >Is there an st running with the 68020 chip and what are the stats on the >STacey? Everyone that commented said dont beleive it til you see it. Neither one of these has been seen so .... "Shadow, do something! Those flying Morpheous / \ birds are going to get us!"
