[comp.sys.atari.st] Mega Fix for PC_Ditto

01659@AECLCR.BITNET (Greg Csullog) (01/12/89)

In October I spoke with Avante-Garde about the fact that PC_Ditto would not
run on my Mega 2 unless I booted the system from floppy, switched on the hard
drive when the ST was at desktop, then ran PC_Ditto from floppy (the PC_Ditto
HD driver would allow access to my Megafile 20 even with the late boot).

I was asked to send a disk to Avante-Garde for the "Mega fix" program. Well,
after almost 2.5 months I called Avante-Garde and they told me to get the fix
program from CompuServe or Genie. I explained that my mgmt will not buy a
subscription and then I was asked to look around at dealers for the code. When
I asked them just to send me the code they begged off, asking me to pursue other
avenues first.

Is Avant-Garde that strapped for cash that they cannot afford the postage to
send me my disk back with the fix on it?

Can someone on the net provide me with this code?

Speaking of which... Anyone know if there will ever be a version of
PC Ditto that emulates expanded memory? It seems kind of silly to
run a DOS emulation, using 703K, in a 4 meg machine...

On a somewhat similar topic, has anyone heard anything new about
XDOS? I've seen one article about it, mentioning thus&such companies
will be licensed to use it, etc. Nothing else in a long long while.
(XDOS, for those who haven't seen, is a system that "compiles" 8086
object code into 680x0 object code. The result is the ability to run
"DOS" applications with very high efficiency on 680x0 based systems.
I don't know what is covered in the translation process, whether an
XDOS system can use DOS formatted disks, etc...)
