[comp.sys.atari.st] ST to pic/troff converter?

brads@hcx1.SSD.HARRIS.COM (11/17/87)

Recently I had the pleasure (:-)) of using UN*X pic/troff to make a
moderately complex drawing. While the results were completely
acceptable, the process of making it (edit, make hard copy, oops!, edit,
...) was not. I am looking for a way to ease the process of making pic
drawings. Any good suggestions will be gratefully accepted. It seems
that one could use a drawing program on the ST (like Degas) to make the
drawing, and then convert the output of the drawing program into
pic/troff commands. Has anyone done this kind of thing before? Is there
a PD/shareware/commercial filter available to convert popular ST
graphics files into pic/troff? Please respond via email, and I will
summarize responses to the net.

Why convert the drawing to troff or pic input? We use devps to convert
troff output to PostScript for printing on either a LaserWriter or Linotronic
and it allows you to include PostScript generated elsewhere into the output.
We teach classes (as well as sell devps :-) ) and I use our Atari and
Publishing Partner to create graphics for the class manuals and then include
them in the troff'ed body text. It works just fine.

I know a person who needs to do word processing in an Indian dialect
called GUJARATI. I know that if he looks hard enough he will find someone
to provide this for him on a Mac. The Mac is big on foreign fonts.
If he can do it on an ST he will buy an ST instead of a Mac. Have foreign
fonts been done on the ST? If so, which company sells them? Of course
he wants wysiwyg on the screen and printer.

P.S. I have two Magic Sacs (new) for sale for $75 each

Note: He is a total novice so I won't confuse him with Magic Sac options.
