Megabytes,Inc is the company (located in Texas) that will market the 16 Mhz CPU upgrade to the Atari ST computers. Megabytes has toll free 800 phone 800-255-5786 I called Megabytes this week to ask about the availablity of the 16 MHz upgrade and also of an expansion cabinet for the Mega STs. I was told that there are diffiuculities in producing the 16 MHZ upgrade and that there is no firm release date. I was also told that the guy designing the upgrade has postponed his Mega ST expansion cabinet until after the release of the 16 MHz upgrade. So, it looks like there is no 16 MHz upgrade in the near future, and that there may never be an expansion cabinet for the Mega STs. FLAME ON HIGH!!!!! The lack of an expansion cabinet for the high end business comnputers (i.e. the Mega ST2/4) is a severe problem given Atari's replacement policy. If you add the extra 2 megabytes of RAM to a Meag ST2 and then have a need to send your MST2 back to Atari for repair, you WILL receive a stock MST2 w/o the full 4 megs of RAM. This is especially true now that Atari has made MST2 motherboards w/o the aditional traces for the extra 2 megs of RAM. Atari needs to enhance the Mega ST by releasing an Atari offically sanctioned expansion cabinet. The cabinet should allow for up to 8 megabytes of additional RAM (making a possible of 12 megs on a MST4 system), more serial i/o ports, the math co-processor chip, enhanced video boards, and maybe even a local are network board. The release of such an offical Mega expansion cabinet would legitize the Atari computers as 'REAL WORLD' computers. I don't understnad why Atari hasn't done more to promote such a product. It is sorely needed. FLAME SMOLDERING BUT SLOWLY DYING OUT!!!! Richard (Atarian forever) Covert
