[comp.sys.atari.st] disk munching, uue, kermit, printer output to disk

ST6156@SIUCVMB.BITNET (Shawn Coumbe) (01/28/89)

Ok. Assuming that this finds it's way onto the list here goes:

I have consistently had the problem of my 3.5 floppies dying. I have had a
520 since January of 1986. I had my cpu replaced due to the infamous problems
with the chips on the early systems. That corrected the problems I had been
having with things being loose but, it did nothing to alleviate the constantly
dying floppies. Thinking that my drive must be damaged I returned that to
Atari also. Nothing seems to have changed though. With just limited use the
disks go off to never never land. I can not format them on my system or anyone
elses system. Any ideas or suggestions????? I am using an Atari 314 drive
(double sided) and a 520ST.

Second, my roomate and I have been trying with marginal success to get files
off the net. Our problem seems to be that the CMS system we are on does odd
things with the end of the lines, like translating underscores to LF's and in
general being insconsistant with it's use of the CR LF sequence at the ends of
lines. My question is would kermit help with this and if so can it be found
implemented in a pd terminal package like Uniterm.

Finally, I have access to a Diablo letter quality printer and a Postscript
laser printer and would like to print my files on these. To do that however
means printing to disk first and then printing that file from a different type
of machine. With the Diablo that should not be much of a problem because
ST Writer supports disk printing...if I had a Diablo driver. If anyone has
such a driver could they please tell me where to find it. Now, I am not so
sure about the Postscript...can one convince a GDOS driver to send it's output
to disk rather than the printer port???

Thanks...
