[comp.sys.atari.st] Dungeon Master Maze Editor

jriegel@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU (Jeff Riegel) (03/01/89)

Has anyone heard about a maze editor that can be used with Dungeon Master?
A local store here says they can special-order it, but I've never heard of
it before and I'm not sure if it really exists.

Any info would be appreciated.

This is a program out of England, a demo version of which was included on
a "disk magazine" which has the interesting feature of being a "flippie"
disk, with Atari ST material on one side, and Amiga material on the other..!

(Hmm... should have said "disk included with a magazine" up there...^^^)

Anyway, it's NOT a Dungeon Master *maze* editor... (unfortunately..!)

It allows you to edit a Saved game file, and change several different kinds
of things... you can delete things... like wall sections, to allow access
into places you haven't been able to get into..

There's a "Global" option to change ALL doors into the kind with a simple
button to open them... (no tricky stuff needed to open them any more)

Also, there's a Global option to make ALL "hidden" doors *open*.. (all those
wall sections that open when you whistle Dixie while holding your left ear..)

Other than that, there's an option to print out the maps of all the levels,
and that's about it..

If you operate on a COPY of your Saved game, it might not involve too much
danger, but the Saved file is pretty touchy about how much it will tolerate
as far as these changes... it's a pretty complex compressed image of the
entire Dungeon and too many edits, or one in the wrong place, and the
game may lock up... and the down side of it is that the crash may not occur
until long after you've made the changes, after you've fought your way down
through all those nasty Levels... suddenly... CRASH...

Just remember not to blame FTL or Dungeon Master, if the Save file has been
edited...!

I really wish it *had* been a true "maze editor"... I'd love to be able to
create my own Levels for Dungeon Master while waiting for DM II to be
released..!

              :)
