[comp.sys.atari.st] Federated store in Bay area

#FJMORA@WMMVS.BITNET (03/15/89)

I just visited the Federated store in Seramonte, CA (near San Francisco).
It is quite large (5000 sq. feet or so) and contains almost every 8- or
16-bit computer unit or peripheral ever made by Atari. I noticed some
Megas with a laser printer and shelves with lots of ST applications.
Also, I noticed some labels with Amiga prices on the Mega tables!
Some Amigas were sold here recently... The store was open until 9PM
and the salesperson was quite informative. The Megafile 30 hard disk
was available, although at the outrageous price of $799! And that's
for an RLL 30 Mbyte, 65 ms average access time drive! Why, I saw
it advertised at General Computers in Paris for about the same price (without
the infamous French sales tax overhead). It it possible to get a hard disk
controller and a similar drive mechanism for $500 to $600 in the MSDOS
world, though it is getting really hard to find a mechanism as slow as
this one. I keep thinking that this price is a rip-off. Does anybody
know a retailer carrying the Megafile 30 at a reasonable price?
Thanks.
