[comp.sys.atari.st] Leaving both monitors on.

doyle@riacs.edu (Dee Doyle) (03/07/89)

I have heard rumors that leaving your monitor on when it is not connected
to the Atari may cause problems. Does anyone have any information about
this? I use Monitor Master and as I switch back and forth, I am not
turning my monitors on and off.

Thanks in advance.

Well, you should always have all your equipment off when plugging or
unplugging any sort of computer equipment.....just in case.....The monitor
master box was intened to save the life-span of the monitor plug and the
cords....

I have the monitor master at home and always leave the monitor off
when not in use or switching with the M/M box.

If you have the color monitor too close to the mono, you will notice some
disruption of the mono screen when the color monitor is on. This is due to
both monitors producing a *VERY* strong magnetic source when powered up and
the 60Hz color monitor is affecting the 70Hz mono.

The only "problems" I've encountered is that the color monitor
will cause unbelieveable interference on the monochrome if both
are on at the same time.

But then again...my two monitors are about 3 mm apart ;-)

Been away for a while... Just to add to a dead discussion, I use the
monitor switcher that Astra makes, which also switches the power when
you switch monitors. I like this a lot better than the Monitor Master
box. (Feels like higher quality material, more convenient to use.)
