[comp.sys.atari.st] IBM R40 hard drive

I have a chance to buy an IBM R40 Hard drive. This is a drive that will work
on XTs and I think ATs without any problems. Its a very good deal but I
don't know if I can use it. Has anyone connected one of these drives to
an atari st? Does anyone know if it can be connected? I don't know what
kind of of hardware this thing is so any response would be helpful.

Yes, I have connected a IBM R40 using a 4000A and a Supra host. This
was for a friend and I'm not sure of the setup, but can find out. What
I did was play with the number of heads and tracks until it formated
at the right size. He has been using it for the last 3 months.

Now for my question. Has anyone used an ESDI drive on the ST? I have
a chance to buy a 380meg drive for a very good price. I know that
Adaptec sells a SCSI to ESDI, but what kind of transfer rate would I
see using this?

Also, the new ICD and Supra software supports 32 meg partitions when using
the new 1.4 TOS. It is so nice going from 12 hard drive icons to 6. Every
things seems to work fine. I guess this is one more reason to buy the
ROMs when they are available!

I have a Micropolis 1355 ESDI HD hooked up to an Adaptec (forgot which one).
I use it with an ICD host, works fine!
