[comp.sys.atari.st] entrepreneurship

I'm not sure how this became a discussion on entrepreneurism, but.....

In article <1433@atari.UUCP>, apratt@atari.UUCP (Allan Pratt) says:
>
> You've missed the whole point of entrepreneurship: start a company, make
> it so (potentially) successful that somebody big is willing to pay you
> big bucks for it, and SELL. That way you get $$ without continued risk.
> You take a smaller amount TODAY rather than rake your $$ in over the
> long term. The buyer takes over the risk & responsibility of making
> money from the company.

"ENTREPRENEUR" from the French "entre" meaning "between" and "preneur"
meaning "taker". Thus "one who takes between", or more succinctly "middleman".
It has since come to mean not just the "wholesaler" but also the originator,
as mentioned by Allan above.
