[net.wanted] Connecting Etherenets

dorl@uwmacc.UUCP (Michael Dorl) (10/21/85)

I have been looking for products to connect base band Ethernets
supporting IP. Products that use a broad band net and are protocol
independent are of the most interest. So far, I have found the
following products...

 Ungermann-Bass Inc. (408) 496-0111

  Buffered repeater. Connects Ethernets using 5Mbps/10mhz broadband
  channel using CSMA/CD. Protocol independent but does no
  filtering. All packets are broadcast to all nets. Price ~ $3800.

 Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC)

  LAN Bridge 100 (10/10 router)
  Connects Ethernets using 10Mbps point to point links on fiber or coax.
  Price ~ $8000.  Protocol independent.

 Applitek (617) 246-4500

  NI10/E connects Ethernets using various protocols over 10Mbps/6Mhz
  broadband channel. Protocol independent; does filtering so local
  traffic is not sent to backbone or to other nets.  Price ~ $12750;
  you also need a NI10/T to serve as a NCC at ~ $7500.

 Bridge Technology (415) 969-4400

  Bridge makes several products in the GS/x line to connect networks.
  They offer mainly IP and XNS support. The GS/6 connects XNS or
  IP Ethernets over a 2Mbps/6Mhz CSMA backbone.  Price is ~ $10500;
  you need a CS/100 at $3900 for a NCC.

 3M Interactive Systems (612) 736-3035

  They have a product that does internetwork routing for IP or ISO Ethernet
  networks. The backbone is broadband using 802.4 token bus operating
  10Mbps using 12Mhz.  Price is $7250 but you need a $27740 NCC.

 Vitalink - Translan (415) 968-5465

  Translan connects nets over point to point or satellite links. Too
  expensive for me!

If you know of any others, please let me know.
