Recently, in reply to my question about a spelling checker DA,
Steve Jacobs asked:

I think he's got it right. I do have this SEDT, both as GEM and TTP program.
And indeed it is a very nice tool, especially when you are used to DECs
EDT. I tried to reach Steve Jacobs, but ...

I would be willing to mail SEDT to a file server. But somebody has to tell
me how to do this from BITNET/EARN. Would it be allright to use ARC 5.21b
(from SSYX) for archiving, or does this have the same problems as the original
ARC 5.21?

I think the best idea would be to mail three archives:
           1) The manual (which I have to dig up somewhere)
           2) SEDT.TTP and related files
           3) GSEDT.PRG and related files

The versions I have are 3.3 for the programs and 3.2 for the manuals.
If somebody has a newer version, please let me now.

No, no, I am not going to mail it to 200 different persons.

There was some question about SEDT's status. I'd suggest you attempt
to contact SEDT's author Anker Berg-Sonne, at DEC. I don't know if
Anker reads this forum. And yes, SEDT is a very good editor, for EDT
throwbacks like me. :-)

I implemented the keypad commands and cntrl-keys of EDT in STedi keyboard
redefinitions a long time ago: much faster than EDT itself. I can send a
copy if you are interestd, some of the code needs polishing for 2.0.
(this also allows you to have folds in EDT :-))

This is the readme file from SEDT. I hope it solves all copyright questions.
SEDT itself will be mailed to Howard Chu (SSYX) shortly.

                                Freeware Program

                            Author: Anker Berg-Sonne

Sedt is a text editor for the IBM PC and compatibles
running DOS or OS/2, DEC Rainbow, ATARI ST, VAX/VMS and
        VAX/ULTRIX.

Because of potential conflict of interest with my
employer I have made Sedt available at no charge for any use. It
may freely be distributed by making copies or any other form of
distribution. For Digital computer systems it will be made
available through the DECUS library. If you would like the
latest version directly from the author mail $25, to cover media,
postage and packaging, to Anker Berg-Sonne, 8 Middlemost Way,
Stow, MA 01775, U.S.A.. Distribution will be on 3 1/2" disks for
the ATARI ST and 5 1/4" disks for all other systems. Please
specify the density of the media.

Sedt is what it is because of a continuing, intense
dialog with the user base. If you have any suggestions for
improvement, or have found a problem, I am anxious to hear about
it. Please mail your thoughts to me at my home address. 8
Middlemost Way, Stow, MA 01775. I would appreciate your
cooperation in limiting telephone queries to an absolute minimum.

Development is done in my spare time and without
financial compensation of any sort. The primary limitation is
availability of equipment. If you really enjoy using Sedt and
want to see further enhancements and support of new hardware a
contribution will be greatly appreciated. Contributions are
entirely voluntary and will be applied exclusively to new
hardware and software purchases. Please mail the contribution to
        Anker Berg-Sonne, 8 Middlemost Way, Stow, MA 01775, U.S.A..

For installation instructions read SEDT.DOC and for
        complete documentation read SEDTMAN.EDT.

I hope you will enjoy the product.

Is SEDT available for anonymous FTP anywhere on the net? If not, could
someone make it so?
