[comp.sys.atari.st] Probs w/ my Indus GT-1000

A few weeks ago, I received my INDUS GT-1000 (I feel foolish saying its full
name. It sounds like one of those FAKE names, lengthened to make it sound
more inpressive). It was made by Future Systems. It was a 5.25" drive.
It was what I needed. It had bells and whistles. It was supposed to be a
good drive.

  ...It was Dead.

When it was attached to my St, it wouldn't let it boot. Its busy light was
ALWAYS lit, whether it was attached to anything or not. It seemed to want
to be drive A. Same results on another St...

...I was *VERY* depressed, and wondered how much damage I could do if I only
had a baseball bat.

Being quite headstrong and overconfident, I ripped the thing apart (uh,
gently dissassembled...)
Without the case and back attached I plugged it in, and re-attached it to
my St... and booted my system, hoping for some sort of flags or banners to
pop out of the drive and point to what was wrong with it. To my surprise
there were no such flags or indicators, but even more surprising...

  ...IT WORKED!

Now, I had no idea what I had changed in the simple act of ripping (uh,
removing) the case and back, but I wasn't above bragging to others that I
had fixed it.

Quite happily I re-assembled it, made room for it in my pyramid of computer
"stuff" and re-connected it, just to find that

  ...it didn't work, AGAIN...

                                                        (I was pissed)

Dissassembling it once again, I observed what the case was doing and watched
how close the case came to the circuit board. Whipping out my handy-dandy
keychain flashlight, I was able to see that the METAL case was touching the
jumpers on the surface of the pc board.
So, carefully bending back the unused jumpers, I finally go the sucker to
work.
  ...I was *VERY* happy.

It's work'n fine now and I LOVE it...

Question:
(It is a 5.25" drive, remember)
The people I ordered it from said it was an 80 track drive.
The manual says that it is an 80 track drive (I think. It said it depended
      on some model number).
It will only format SS/40 or DS/40 correctly...
Should I be able to format it DS/80 or SS/80 ?
