[comp.sys.atari.st] Wordperfect and the U.S. market

"I am about to write a letter to WordPerfect asking them to
reconsider their decision to stop development for the Atari ST.
I would encourage all registered users to do the same...."

Being a very satisfied customer and happy user of WordPerfect for
the ST, I would love to see continued support for the ST. The support,
of course, will always be there. Upgrading to 5.0 will be another
matter. Unfortunately, until the ST grabs the U.S. market better, and
until the ST community is willing to support WordPerfect, I doubt
if WordPerfect would be willing to invest tens of thousands of
bucks into research and development for the ST version of 5.0.
Although our current version is actually already quite close to
5.0 (sort of in between 4.1 and 5.0), it would take a major rewrite
if not rewrite-from-scratch, to build 5.0.
It's all in the manner of money. The ST version will have to be
shown to be profitable. I'd love it, but am skeptical. At any rate,
let the letters roll!!!

My concern about continued WP support is not whether I get WP 5.0 for
the ST with all its DTP enhancements, but whether file
interchangeability will be supported. We use MS-DOS machines at work,
and I want to be sure that I can continue to interchange files between
them and my Atari. At present I can stick an MS-DOS disk in the Atari
and read/write WP files -- will that continue?
